CLUSTERS – REMIX 2010
NORDEA NORGE KUNSTSAMLING
Haugar Art Museum 20 March–9 May 2010

This exhibition has been curated for Haugar’s premises by Åsmund Thorkildsen, director of Drammens Museum. For many years now, he has been advising Nordea Bank on its art collection, giving him detailed knowledge of its range and variety. Three years ago, he took part in the first presentation of this collection when it was exhibited at Høvikodden. He has now taken the opportunity to present it in a whole new light.

What sets this collection apart is the decision to focus strongly on just a few Norwegian artists and to purchase a number of representative works from each. Alongside this is the emphasis on a group of top international artists who are relatively poorly represented in other Norwegian collections. There are also a number of individual works from other related artists exhibited alongside the core pieces to form a series of “clusters” of works, grouped together either thematically or technically.

The exhibition comprises 120 works by 40 different artists and includes a number of new acquisitions from recent years which have never previously been shown in this context. Among the Norwegian artists, we find extensive presentations of Per Barclay, Tom Sandberg and Mari Slaattelid, in addition to international names like Carroll Dunham, Candida Höfer, Julian Opie, Gordon Matta-Clark and Bruce Nauman.

Åsmund Thorkildsen’s many interesting thoughts on his new remix of the collection are published in the catalogue.

The original Haugar symbol is designed by Walter Grønli. Adjusted and framed by Halvor Bodin in 2006.
